From Autumn to Winter brings together Canadian paintings that capture the landscape at two very different times of year. The exhibition focuses on the rich colours of autumn and the more restrained palette of winter, showing how Canadian artists have interpreted these seasons in very different ways.
The autumn works feature warm reds, oranges, yellows, greens and browns, while the winter paintings shift toward whites, blues, greys and softer earth tones. Together, they show the dramatic change in both colour and feeling as the Canadian landscape moves from fall into winter.
The exhibition includes works by Stanley Cosgrove, John Young Johnstone, Joachim Gauthier, John William Beatty, William Percy Weston, Henri Masson, Ken Danby, David Milne, Albert Franck, Leonard Hutchinson, Henry Glyde, Berthe Des Clayes, and Randolph Stanley Hewton.
Rather than presenting one particular style or period, the exhibition brings together different generations of Canadian artists to show the many ways they approached the familiar Canadian landscape.
