Robert Buick’s Another Way is an abstract steel sculpture formed from a series of looping, bent and interwoven tubular elements. The lower section is densely knotted, with curved lengths of steel crossing and wrapping around one another to create a compact, energetic core. As the sculpture rises, the composition becomes more open, ending in a loose serpentine form that reaches upward.
The polished steel surface catches the light along each curve, emphasizing the changing contours and giving the rigid material a surprisingly fluid appearance. The contrast between the tightly compressed base and the freer upper section creates a strong sense of upward movement and release.
Although entirely abstract, the work suggests ideas of movement, pathways and transformation. The title Another Way reinforces this sense of redirection, as the steel line repeatedly bends, turns and finds a new course.
