Robert Buick’s Stride is an abstract steel sculpture with a strong vertical presence and a clear suggestion of a figure in motion. Two long, narrow supports create the impression of legs, while the upper structure rises in a series of angular planes that read almost like a torso, shoulder and head.

A small curled element projecting from the side introduces a contrasting circular movement against the otherwise sharp, elongated geometry. The steel surfaces vary from darkened areas to brighter, polished edges, emphasizing the cuts, bends and welded construction.

Despite its rigid material, the sculpture feels animated. The offset planes and separated lower supports create the sense of a body caught mid-step, giving the title Stride a direct connection to the work’s implied movement.
