The pale stone has a warm cream-to-blush tone that suits the title, while its smooth, rounded contours suggest the unfolding shape of a flower petal.
The sculpture is composed of gently overlapping planes and curved recesses. A broad outer form rises vertically, enclosing smaller, swelling shapes that project forward and create a sense of layered growth. One prominent oval depression or inset area has a subtly textured surface, contrasting with the smoother polished passages around it and giving the work additional depth and tactile interest.
Viewed from the side, the sculpture becomes notably slender, revealing how Beder has compressed the form into a narrow profile while maintaining a strong sense of volume from the front. Natural veining and darker inclusions in the marble remain visible, allowing the character of the stone to contribute to the composition.
The dark rectangular wooden base provides a strong visual contrast to the light marble and emphasizes the sculpture’s delicate, almost botanical quality. The underside label identifies the work as Jack Beder’s Peach Petal, 1971, marble, numbered 69.
