The piece is signed in the bottom...Dawn, Indian Point by Leonard Hutchinson is an 8.3 x 10 inch woodblock on paper produced circa 1935 and protected under museum glass. The piece is signed in the bottom right corner as well as titled and numbered 10 out of 50 in the left hand corner. The woodblock depicts the silhouette of a large tree lit up by the morning sun. Its brilliant orange branches seem as if they are actually glowing against the soft yellow sky. The earth beneath is a saturated blue tone that compliments the warmth of the rest of the scene. Hutchinson uses simplified forms combined with vibrant colours to create a dynamic image that offers a calm and tranquil feeling.
