Oatfield, Summer Day by Goodridge Roberts is a 20 x 24 inch oil on masonite that was produced in 1965 and signed in the bottom right corner. It has Joan Roberts inventory #1465 written on the reverse. The painting depicts a sprawling field dotted with wheat stooks. A simple wooden fence lines the field and little yellow flowers spring from the tall grasses beyond. The golden light of the sun brightens this country landscape as rolling clouds dance in the vibrant blue sky above. Roberts paints en plein air using loose and gestural strokes, giving him the ability to capture the essence and emotion of a scene.

This painting was on display at the Roberts Gallery in Toronto before making its way to Rookleys Canadian Art.
