Jazmine Miller
Jazmine Miller’s Hazy Reef is an atmospheric abstract composition dominated by luminous blues, turquoise, and deep indigo. The painting suggests the sensation of looking through water, with darker forms drifting around a bright central field as though submerged shapes are appearing and disappearing beneath the surface.
The upper portion is dense and shadowy, built from layered passages of navy, cobalt, and blue-green. These darker areas gradually open into a glowing expanse of pale aqua and white toward the lower half of the composition. Subtle washes, stains, softened edges, and partially visible marks create a sense of depth without defining a specific landscape.
The vertical format strengthens the feeling of descent through water and light. Rather than depicting a reef literally, Miller evokes its atmosphere through colour and movement, suggesting currents, underwater shadows, and shifting illumination. The contrast between the deep blues above and the almost radiant lower passages gives the work a quiet, immersive quality, balancing mystery with a strong sense of openness and light.
