Caroline Armington’s Le Petit Pont à Moret is a finely worked etching of a small arched stone bridge in Moret-sur-Loing, France. The composition centres on the bridge as it crosses a narrow river, with figures and a cart moving across the top while dense trees and foliage frame the scene on both sides.

Armington uses energetic, almost scribbled etched lines to build the image. The bridge is more tightly structured, with dark cross-hatching defining the arches, stonework and central pier, while the surrounding trees are rendered with loose, lively linework. This contrast gives the etching both architectural solidity and a sense of movement in the landscape.

The water beneath the bridge is suggested with quick horizontal strokes, reflecting light through the dark arches. The figures on the bridge add scale and daily-life interest without distracting from the structure itself. The overall effect is intimate and picturesque, capturing a quiet French village scene with Armington’s characteristic sensitivity to old architecture, bridges and street life.
