A greatly sentimental piece in Canadian artist Bruno Capolongo’s portfolio; Morning Song is an elegant portrayal of Capolongo’s own daughter Angelica, as she weaves the air and atmosphere around her with her flute song. Capolongo illustrates what he describes as the “siren-like power” of the flutist’s melody by employing bold and unblended rhythmic brush strokes.
The 13 x 8 inch piece depicts Angelica as the focal point, as she stands with her back to the viewer. Her sky blue dress is made up of what appear to be to be delicate petals which disperse as they hit the ground. In such a way the muse is one with the garden she commands around her.
Capolongo’s signature, painted in a matching blue to Angelica’s dress, is visible in the bottom left corner of the piece; by such means, certifying its authenticity. The only provenance associated with Morning Song is Rookleys Canadian Art Gallery, as this oil and acrylic on panel composition was received directly from the artist himself. As such, a Rookleys Canadian Art Gallery sticker can be found pasted to the reverse side of the panel.
