Canadian artist Bruno Capolongo’s oil on canvas panel piece
entitled The Artists Garden depicts a formal garden, painted en
plein-air, featuring a statue of a classical female figure in the forefront. Plein
air technique translates as ‘in open air’ from French, and refers to the
technique of painting outdoors and without the confines of four walls.

Capolongo’s signature, painted in black, can be found on the
bottom right corner of the painting thereby attesting to its authenticity. The
painting comes with provenance only from our own gallery as it was received directly from the artist himself. As with all pieces purchased from our gallery, a
Rookleys Canadian Art gallery sticker can be found pasted to the reverse side
of the artwork’s panel.

The piece was painted in 2024 and employs a precise style.
Capolongo utilized smooth brushwork for the creation of a controlled
composition. Though on the smaller scale in terms of size, this painting is far
from limited by its canvas. The 10 x 8 inch painting is highly intricate and
meticulously carves out all the particulars of the garden, from the iron bench
to the delicate folds of the female statue’s draped covering. The viewer may
walk away from
The Artists Garden with feelings of ease as they reflect
on the themes of classical beauty and tranquility.
