Shawanaga Bay '68 by Goodridge Roberts offers a snapshot of Shawanaga Bay, forever preserving its essence and natural splendor in the late ‘60s. Roberts, celebrated for his skillful depiction of Canadian landscapes, depicts in this piece a view of the bay from high ground and amongst pines both towering and burgeoning.

Roberts’ employment of loose and fast brushwork throughout the piece, especially where concerning the foliage of the trees, conveys the movement of a windy day in the bay. The use of oil on masonite medium allowed for the production of rich textures further adding to the creation of motion as the wind stirs up breaks of surf in the water.

The 20 x 24 inch composition uses a cool toned palette so the viewer may feel the chill emanating off the landscape as they stand alone to face the grandness of the bay.
