Lake Magog, Mt. Assiniboine by A.C. Leighton is a 13 x 17 inch watercolour on paper protected under museum glass. The piece perfectly captures the majesty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, with their towering peaks and glacier fed lakes. Small spruce trees in the foreground contrast against the bright turquoise water and the pure white snow in the distance, adding depth to the painting.
Leighton went to great lengths to paint these mountain landscapes en plein air and depict them from just the right vantage point. He was well known for his work with Canadian Pacific Railway and later in life, as an art educator.
This piece was part of a private collection in Niagara before being featured at Rookleys Canadian Art.
