Quiet Farm in Dorchester by A.C. Leighton is a 10 x 14 inch watercolour on paper that is protected by museum glass. The piece depicts the quaint town of Dorchester, located near London, Ontario. It emphasizes an enormous sky, rolling trees dwarfed beneath. Leighton uses a palette of predominantly green and blue to bring a calmness to the piece. One can feel the quiet and solitude exuded in the wide open space. The piece captures an Ontario of the past, preserved in time.
Leighton was well known for his work for Canadian Pacific Railway where he documented the rugged terrain of the Rocky Mountains.
The piece was on display at the Gainsborough Galleries, in Calgary, Alberta before coming to Rookleys Canadian Art.
