Afternoon, Fraser Valley by Tom Roberts is a 11.8 x 15.5 inch watercolour on paper that is protected by museum glass. It is signed in the bottom right corner. The painting depicts a small mountain village in British Columbia. Little white houses sit along the bank of a river, dwarfed by a towering mountain that looms behind them. The white of snow can be seen on the peak, cascading down towards the homes, while large clouds hang in the sky.
Roberts uses a cool colour palette dominated by blue and green to depict this majestic alpine scene. Afternoon, Fraser Valley comes from the estate of Tom Roberts and was on display at the Roberts Gallery in Toronto before being added to the Rookleys collection.
