Brilliant Winter Day, New Brunswick by Goodridge Roberts is a 14.875 x 17.875 inch oil on masonite that was produced circa 1960 and is signed in the bottom right. The piece depicts a winter forest landscape. Dark figures of pine trees dissect the composition, contrasting against the white of the snow beneath. Although a cold scene, the piece exudes a cheerfulness in the bright blue of the sky that dominates the painting. Roberts uses quick brush strokes to suggest movement, conveying a chill in the air.
This piece was part of wife, Joan Roberts, collection and was on display at Continental Galleries in Montreal before being added to the Rookleys collection.
