Spring Near Ripon, Quebec by Ralph Burton is a 10..5 x 13.5 inch oil on panel that was produced in 1961 and is signed on the bottom right corner. It is aso signed, titled and dated on the reverse. The piece depicts a winter landscape. The trees are bare and snow covers the rolling fields as far as the eye can see. Burton uses bright blue in the background to suggest mountains off into the distance. A hint of yellow in the foreground is the only other splash of colour in an otherwise neutral palette. Even with so little colour, Spring Near Ripon, Quebec has a warmth and tranquility to it. It emanates solitude and stillness that is characteristic of Canada in wintertime.
