Spring Creek St. Fereole, P.Q by Montreal born artist, Lorne Bouchard (1913-1978) is a 8 x 12 inch oil on panel painting that was produced in April 1966 and is signed by the artist in the bottom right corner. The piece depicts a winter landscape using an exclusively cool toned colour palette. There are large areas of white space within the composition accompanied by icy blues in the mountains, river and sky that imply frigid winter temperatures, typical of that region in Quebec.
Bouchard uses sweeping brushstrokes and big, bold blocks of colour in this piece, which is very characteristic of his style of work. Bouchard was known for his ability to capture the light and mood of a scene with just a few, very well thought brushstrokes. Despite the seemingly simple subject matter, he was able to convey a depth in his artwork, as well as a narrative that is unique to each piece.
Spring Creek St. Fereole, P.Q has spent time on display at both the Walter Klinkhoff Gallery and the Alan Klinkhoff Gallery in Montreal as well as in a private collection in Peterborough, Ontario before coming to Rookleys Canadian Art.
