Kirsten Bergmann’s Horse Pasture is an atmospheric landscape showing two horses grazing in a quiet, mist-covered field at the edge of a dark woodland. The scene is subdued and tonal, with the trees forming a deep shadowed mass on the right while pale light opens across the sky and distant field to the left.
A narrow stream or wetland channel curves through the foreground, leading the eye gently into the pasture. The water catches soft reflections of the sky, adding a cool silvery tone to the otherwise green, grey and black palette. The horses are deliberately understated: one appears near the centre, partly veiled by mist, while the darker horse at right lowers its head to graze in the dim light.
The strength of Horse Pasture lies in its quiet mood. Rather than describing every detail sharply, Bergmann uses soft transitions, blurred edges and muted colour to suggest early morning or evening light. The painting feels still, private and slightly mysterious, capturing a rural moment when the landscape is more about atmosphere than activity.
