Kirsten Bergmann’s Booth’s Rock Trail Exit depicts a quiet wetland bordered by forest, reeds and dead standing trees. The still dark water occupies the lower half of the painting, reflecting the pale trunks, grasses and blue sky above. Across the far shore, a dense line of evergreens and autumn-tinged trees forms a dark backdrop, while the bare, skeletal trunks rising from the marsh give the scene a slightly haunting, naturalist quality.
The foreground at right is especially strong, with golden-brown seed heads, long reeds and glossy green leaves painted in sharp detail. These close-up plants frame the view and create depth, drawing the eye across the water toward the pale deadwood at the centre. The bright blue sky and soft drifting clouds contrast with the dark reflective pond, giving the painting a clear, late-summer or early-autumn atmosphere.
Booth’s Rock Trail is a location in Algonquin Provincial Park, and the image fits that setting well: still water, marsh grasses, fallen timber, coniferous forest and the quiet edge of a trail emerging from the woods. Bergmann’s painting captures the stillness of a northern Ontario wetland, balancing detailed observation with a calm, contemplative mood.
