Willard Morse Mitchell, Notre Dame Church, Montreal presents a lively, impressionistic view of the great basilica animated by movement and atmosphere rather than strict architectural detail. The twin towers rise in warm ochres and sandy yellows, their forms loosely articulated with dark, calligraphic accents that suggest stonework, openings, and shadowed recesses. Soft washes of blue and grey drift across the sky, giving a sense of shifting light and passing clouds, while small birds flick across the air, adding energy and scale.

At ground level, the scene comes alive with clustered figures rendered in quick, dotted strokes—pedestrians gathering and circulating in the square, their presence indicated more by colour and rhythm than by detail. Greens from nearby trees and patches of grass soften the composition and balance the warm tones of the façade. The overall effect is atmospheric and bustling, capturing Notre Dame not as a static monument, but as a living focal point within the daily life of Montreal.
