Bruno Capolongo’s Thunder Cove, PEI depicts the dramatic red sandstone shoreline of Prince Edward Island at sunset, with a solitary sea stack rising just offshore and a larger eroded rock formation extending from the right.

The foreground is dominated by broad shelves of reddish sandstone, broken into layered slabs and shallow channels where the sea has worn into the coast. Capolongo carefully emphasizes the geology of the shoreline, using warm reds, rusts, and muted violets to describe the weathered rock surfaces. Beyond them, cool blue-grey water creates a strong contrast with the land.

The sea stack is the focal point of the composition, its narrow base and heavier, sculpted upper section showing the effects of continual erosion. Behind it, the sky shifts from pale blue-green to soft yellow and orange near the horizon, suggesting the last light of evening. The calm horizontal bands of sea and sky balance the rugged forms of the rocks, giving the painting both a monumental and tranquil character.

The work captures the distinctive coastal landscape of Thunder Cove, Prince Edward Island, where red sandstone cliffs and sea stacks have been shaped by wind and waves into striking natural formations.
