Dangerous Beauty is a round 18 x 18 inch oil, acrylic and 24kt gold on panel by Canadian artist, Bruno Capolongo (b. 1971). This piece was produced in 2024 and is signed and titled on the reverse. The artwork depicts the sullen face of Medusa, menacing serpents crowning her head. The painting showcases a monochromatic palette of turquoise and teal, adorned with hints of authentic gold that seem to symbolize cracks or tears throughout.
Capolongo’s work is an adaptation of kintsugi; the Japanese Art of mending broken pottery using precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum. The work is meant to be a metaphor for overcoming hardships and tragedies and embracing the flaws and imperfections in life.
We are proud to showcase several of Capolongo’s kintsugi artwork in our collection.
