Newtonbrook by Owen Staples is a 9.1 x 13.3 inch watercolour on paper that is protected by museum glass. The painting was produced in 1927 and is signed and dated in the bottom right corner. It is also signed, titled and dated on the reverse. It is a charming rural landscape depicting a farmhouse and pasture. Cattle graze upon the sun drenched field and sip from small pools of water that dot the land. Large trees frame the composition, dwarfing the animals beneath. Staples uses soft washes in the sky that contrast against the vibrant hues of the surrounding greenery.
This painting was on display at John Britwell Gallery in Toronto before being added to the Rookleys Canadian Art collection.
