St. Peters, Windermere by Margaret Dorothy Shelton is a 4.5 x 5 inch woodcut on paper protected under museum glass. Produced in 1978, this piece is signed and dated by the artist in the bottom right corner. It is number 162 in a series of 200. Shelton depicts a charming rural scene with a family walking arm and arm towards a white church, their dog trailing at their side. Using vibrant, saturated hues and simple forms, she creates a cheerful and jovial setting that takes one back to a simpler time.
Born in Canada in 1915, Margaret Dorothy Shelton spent most of her life in Alberta, studying at the Banff School of Fine Arts. She worked in a number of different mediums including watercolour and oil but is best known for her block printing.
