Homestead Harmony by John H. MacNaughton is a charming 12 x 15 inch oil on panel created circa 1890 of a quaint country scene. This piece, signed on the bottom left, depicts a simpler time and conveys the dramatic changes to daily life over the last century in Canada. A farmer tends his field as cattle graze in the rolling hills that surround the homestead. No other houses can be seen in the surrounding countryside, giving the feeling of seclusion and privacy. MacNaughton paints with incredible detail in this piece, adding a level of realism to the whimsical scene.

There is not much known about John H. MacNaughton as an artist but that he was active between 1876 and 1899.
