The animals fill the middle ground in a loose procession, their dark, heavy forms creating a powerful contrast against the pale blues, creams, and violets of the snow.
Several bison occupy the foreground, including a large central animal shown with its head lowered as it advances through the snow. Around it, others move at an unhurried pace, their massive bodies defined with broad, expressive strokes of deep brown, black, blue, and ochre. A smaller bison near the front introduces a sense of continuity and family within the herd.
The low sun glows near the horizon, casting warm yellow and gold light across the landscape and breaking through a sky filled with muted grey, blue, lavender, and green. These warm highlights are echoed along the backs of the animals and across the snowy ground, creating a dramatic interplay between cold winter colour and late-day light.
Cheung’s energetic brushwork gives the scene movement without urgency. The bison appear calm and self-assured, moving together across the open land with a sense of strength and instinctive purpose. No Hurry, No Fear captures both the resilience of the animals and the expansive solitude of the prairie, with the title reinforcing the quiet confidence of the herd as it travels through the winter landscape.
