Large billowing clouds sweep across brilliant blue, while the water below is broken by scattered white highlights that suggest a steady wind moving across the surface.
The foreground is dominated by warm, sunlit rock in ochre, peach, brown, and violet, interrupted by patches of moss and low vegetation. Beyond it, the cool blue water curves toward a wooded point at right and a distant shoreline of mixed forest. Dark windswept pines frame the scene and reinforce the sense of changing weather.
Paonessa uses vigorous, highly visible brushwork throughout, particularly in the clouds, rock faces, and trees. The contrast between the warm foreground stone and cool blues of the lake and sky gives the painting considerable depth, while the energetic handling captures the freshness and movement of a windy summer day in the Canadian wilderness.
