The composition is organized by a visible grid of fine horizontal and vertical lines, dividing the canvas into measured intervals that provide an architectural framework.
Within this structure, broad vertical bands in muted olive, sage, and cream descend through the composition, their surfaces subtly textured and softly modulated. The paint appears layered and slightly mottled, allowing light to activate the surface. Against these cooler, earthy passages, Evans introduces dark, trapezoidal forms in deep umber and maroon. These shapes lean and taper as they descend, creating a sense of controlled imbalance and directional movement.
A restrained red field appears in the upper left corner, providing a warm counterpoint to the predominantly green palette. The interplay between cool vertical veils and solid geometric blocks produces visual tension — order contained within motion.
Unlike the high chromatic intensity of some of his earlier works, More Momentum demonstrates a more subdued tonal range, where texture and spatial rhythm become central. The painting balances precision with atmospheric variation, revealing Evans’ sustained interest in geometry as a living, shifting system rather than a static design.
