A tall, glassy building dominates the left side, its large window panes washed in deep indigos and smoky greys, with greenish framework that feels cold and industrial. Beyond it, a row of older façades recedes into the distance—chimneys, dormers, and narrow upper windows simplified into crisp, geometric shapes.
The whole scene is veiled in drifting fog: edges dissolve, pavements fade, and forms appear to emerge and vanish in the same breath. The sky is a sweeping violet-brown wash, layered in broad arcs that heighten the sense of weather moving through the street. Small accents—warm red-orange dots along the right-hand side, and a few figures reduced to dark silhouettes—punctuate the haze and give the composition scale and quiet human presence. The overall effect is cinematic and slightly surreal, with Malczewski balancing strong architecture against fluid, dissolving mist to create a feeling of solitude and late-day chill.
