The sculpture’s form, elegantly arched and tapering like the last quarter of the moon, evokes the feeling of celestial motion. With its sweeping wedge shape, the piece draws the eye to the edges in a graceful, almost gravitational curve.
The richly pigmented glass radiates with deep reds and subtle translucence, interacting beautifully with light from different angles. The smooth steel base anchors the piece with strength and contrast, highlighting the delicacy and dynamism of the glass itself. The title Redshift references the cosmological phenomenon of light moving through expanding space, adding a conceptual layer of energy, change, and momentum.
Robert Buick has worked in glass and steel for over 25 years, often designing his own tools and equipment to push the limits of form and technique. Based in Canada, his sculptural works are celebrated for their striking balance between movement and stillness, tension and harmony.
This sculpture measures 33 x 7 x 4 in and is signed by the artist on the steel base.
