Stream in Winter by Frank Panabaker is a 20 x 26 inch oil on board produced circa 1950 and signed in the bottom right corner. The painting depicts a snow covered forest with a stream dissecting the composition. Although it is a winter landscape, Panabaker utilizes a lot of colour in this piece, giving it a warmth despite the cold temperature. Rust and burgundy hues from the pine trees are reflected in the still waters of the stream and long blades of straw coloured grass can be seen poking through the thick snow. Even the sky overhead is painted a cheerful blue.
Panabaker was known for his diverse landscapes and adventurous spirit, painting across Ontario in all weather and seasons.
