The painting...Open Stream by Peter Clapham Sheppard is a 10 x 14 inch oil on panel that was produced circa 1940 and is signed in the bottom right corner. The painting depicts a colourful woodland landscape with a stream rushing through it. Sheppard uses an array of saturated jewel tones to portray the shores of the fast-flowing river. The deep purple hues of the rockface contrast with the lighter tints he uses to capture the raging waters. Sheppard combines abstract forms with iconic Canadian imagery to create a piece that has incredible movement and dynamism to it.
