Rue Christopher Colombe, Quebec by John Little is a 12 x 16 oil on canvas that was produced in 1974 and signed in the bottom right. It has artist inventory #74-62 on the reverse. The piece was exhibited at the Downstairs Gallery in Edmonton before being added to the Rookleys collection.
The painting depicts an urban Montreal winter streetscape and perfectly captures the charm of the historic neighborhoods of the city. Little uses a muted palette of grey and brown to emphasize the cold and damp of the day. His skill at capturing the architecture and perspective of the street is evident, as one gazes into the scene. Known for his Quebec-inspired artwork, Little had the incredible ability to evoke the feeling of nostalgia and familiarity in his pieces.
