Robert Buick’s Sticks #2 combines a tall fused-glass panel with an angular framework of black steel, creating a striking contrast between luminous colour and rigid structure. The narrow vertical glass element is built from layered fragments of white, black, violet, yellow, orange, green and clear glass, producing the effect of an abstract collage suspended within the sculpture.

The surrounding steel rods project outward at irregular angles, some crossing in front of the glass while others extend from the base like supports or scattered sticks. Their dark linear geometry contrasts with the softer, translucent shapes embedded in the glass and gives the work a sense of tension and movement.

The title Sticks #2 is especially appropriate because the steel elements appear almost casually arranged, yet they also function as an active structural drawing around the glass. The result is a dynamic mixed-media sculpture that balances transparency and weight, colour and line, order and improvisation.
