Winnie Chen’s Snowy Owl is a delicate watercolour study presented in a warm wood frame with a wide white mat. The owl is shown facing forward, its white head and body emerging softly from the paper, while violet-grey washes define the patterned feathers along the wing. The bright golden eyes provide the strongest focal point, giving the bird a calm but watchful presence.

Chen uses a restrained palette of white, lavender, grey, black, and soft brown, allowing the snowy owl’s form to remain light and atmospheric. The lower perch and surrounding shadows are only loosely suggested, keeping attention on the owl’s face and textured plumage. The open background, broad matting, and natural wood frame enhance the quiet, contemplative character of the work, making it feel both intimate and spacious.
