Joe Norris’s Parade of Sails is a bright, celebratory coastal scene filled with movement and colour. Several white-sailed schooners glide across an intense blue harbour, their crisp forms standing out against the simplified shoreline and open water. In the distance, a small lighthouse with a red roof marks the far edge of the bay, while rocky inlets, grassy banks, and clusters of evergreens frame the passage of the boats and guide the eye through the composition.

Painted in Norris’s distinctive folk-art style, the work relies on bold outlines, flattened space, and vivid, high-key colour rather than naturalistic detail. The contrast of deep blue water, white sails, lime-green land, and fiery orange vegetation gives the painting a lively, festive energy that suits its title. Joe Norris captures the spirit of a Maritime regatta with charm and directness, turning a simple harbour view into an image of rhythm, joy, and visual delight.
