Christopher Kier, Elements of a Desire is an abstract composition executed in encaustic on canvas, a medium that gives the work its rich surface and layered, tactile character.

Christopher Kier (b. 1959, Toronto, ON) is a Canadian artist who works primarily in encaustic (wax) on canvas and mylar, often combining the wax with graphite, oil paint, and charcoal to build layered, textured surfaces. He studied at the Ontario College of Art, earning his BFA in 1987. Kier’s work has been included in numerous exhibitions in Canada, the U.S., and Europe, and his paintings are held in public and private collections, including the Canada Council Art Bank (Ottawa, ON), Carleton University (Ottawa, ON), Air Canada (Ottawa, ON), Westin (Denver, CO), Nordstrom (Seattle, WA), and the Park Hyatt (Toronto, ON). His encaustic paintings often feature abstract, architectural, or symbolic forms rendered in richly layered wax.
