Philodendron (c. 1940) by Canadian artist Nora Collyer (1898–1979) is an 18 × 16 in oil on panel, signed lower left, capturing the  vibrant textures of tropical foliage with her signature modernist touch.

Nora Frances Elizabeth Collyer (1898–1979) was a celebrated Canadian modernist painter from Montreal, best known for her sensitive depictions of landscape, nature, and still-life subjects. Educated at the Art Association of Montreal under influential teachers like William Brymner and Maurice Cullen, Collyer developed a style recognized for rich colour and harmonious shapes, a reflection of her engagement with the natural world and modernist ideals.

As the youngest member of the Beaver Hall Group, a pivotal collective of Canadian artists who embraced modern perspectives in the early 20th century, she helped push Canadian art beyond traditional academic norms. Her work was exhibited internationally, including at the British Empire Exhibition in England and the 1939 New York World’s Fair, affirming her importance on both national and global stages.
