Jack Beder’s Fossil Form is an abstract sculpture with a soft, weathered presence, shaped like an unearthed fragment worn smooth by time. Its rounded masses and shallow ridges suggest a fossil, shell, or eroded stone, while the creamy off-white surface gives it a chalky, ancient character. Rather than defining a single subject, the work invites associations with natural growth, geological pressure, and the slow shaping forces of age.

The sculpture’s low, compact silhouette feels both heavy and organic, with protrusions and hollows that create a quiet sense of movement across the form. From this angle, Fossil Form appears almost like a relic from the natural world, balancing abstraction with the suggestion of something once living. Its restraint and simplicity give it a meditative quality, encouraging close looking at surface, contour, and mass.
