La Lieutenance à Honfleur, Normandy, 1922 by Caroline Armington is an oil painting signed and dated on the bottom left corner. A village corner of a lively European street decorated with life and sound from the people and buildings surrounding it. Caroline’s details in the buildings are made with short strokes of blues and creams with greenery growing through the particular stone walls and tiled roof. Architectural features are highlighted by the warm tones of the sun. Even further detailing from her paintbrush gives historical remembrance from conical turrets, arched doorways, and ornate stonework with a sculpted figure nestled in between the architectural detailing. Walking below the possible storefronts and stone-walled buildings are women and children, along with other people holding tools that assist with daily life tasks. The people on the cobblestone street are brushed with an impressionistic eye and create the atmosphere of Normandy. The day-to-day life of the village people is vibrant from the sun’s perspective, an extra shine from her European sketch scenes.
