St. Michel-en-Greve by Caroline Armington is a 10.75 x 6.75 inch etching on paper that was produced in 1916 and is protected by museum glass. The piece is signed in the bottom right corner and is number 172 in “Caroline and Frank Armington- Canadian Painter-Etchers in Paris”. It came to Rookleys from the estate of Henry Beaumont in Calgary.

This black and white etching depicts a cobblestone laneway lined with houses. Figures can be seen strolling the street which makes its way up a steep hill. Chickens gather in patches to nibble on whatever scraps of food they can find. Armington perfectly captures the simplicity of everyday life. Her use of light and shadow adds depth and perspective to the piece.
