In Beacon of Lake Erie, Peter Cheung paints a single lighthouse glowing against the vast waters and sky. His loose, confident brushstrokes and bold use of light create a scene that is both calm and full of movement.
Born in Hong Kong and based in Southern Ontario, Cheung studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) and the Art Students League of New York, where he refined a style that blends Eastern calligraphic energy with Western impressionist influences. Travels through Europe’s art capitals further shaped his approach, deepening his mastery of light, colour, and atmosphere.
Cheung’s work has been featured in respected Canadian venues, including the Art Gallery of Burlington and the Art Gallery of Guelph. His paintings are held in private and corporate collections across Canada and abroad, admired for their ability to convey both the grandeur and intimacy of a moment in nature.
