Winter Morning by Claude Picher (1927-1988) is a 10 x 12 inch oil on canvas that was produced circa 1970 and signed in the bottom right corner. The painting depicts a cold, snow covered landscape in various shades of blue. A basic wooden fence lines the foreground and the dark silhouette of trees can be seen in the distance.

Picher uses simple shapes and large blocks of colour to portray a sense of quiet and isolation in this piece. He was known for his bold and slightly abstracted landscapes and was very fond of painting scenes of the Quebec countryside.

This piece spent time on display at the Walter Klinkhoff Gallery in Montreal before joining our collection at Rookleys.
