The artwork depicts a quiet forest landscape. What appears to be an abandoned structure sits nestled amongst the brush. The dense foliage of the trees is reflected in the still waters below. Rust coloured leaves of a dying tree pop against the thick forest of green. Above, a bright blue sky speckled with clouds brings lightness to the scene, which would otherwise be shrouded in shadow.

Paonessa manages to capture an incredible amount of detail in this small dominantly horizontal piece. He achieves this great detail by using precise brush strokes and diverse textures to portray the various trees and shrubbery.

Summer Day in Stouffville came into possession of Rookleys Canadian Art Gallery directly from the artist’s collection. Thus, the painting carries only our own gallery in its provenance. This provenance is attested to with the presence of a Rookleys Canadian Art gallery sticker pasted to the reverse of the piece.
