In Along the Park, Westmount, Jack Beder captures one of Montreal’s most distinguished neighbourhoods. Painted in 1969, this oil on board presents a streetscape, on a snowy, winter day. Jack Beder was very well-known for his Montreal street scenes.
Beder’s nuanced palette in this piece reflect the winter season, with shades of grey, blue, brown and dark orange. The hint of teal on the roof of the building brings a playful pop of colour. Beder would paint these winter street scenes in his car despite his discomfort due to the cold.
This piece measures 10.5 x 13.75 inches and is signed at the bottom right. This painting was featured in the Jack Beder: Life and Art in Canada exhibition at Rookleys Canadian Art Gallery.
