Summer Afternoon, Clandeboye Ave by Montreal artist, Jack Beder (1910-1987) is an 8 x 10 in oil on canvas board featuring a quiet rural street scene in the Westmount area of Montreal. The painting uses a bright colour palette of orange, green and blue to illicit a cheerful feeling. The piece is painted in a loose style, using quick brushstrokes and simple linework. It is signed by the artist in the bottom right corner and was produced in 1981, six years before Beder’s death.

Beder loved to capture Montreal and is most famous for his street and social scenes that magnificently represent the city and its residents. His thoughtful images give insight into the everyday people and places that made up daily life.

This piece, Summer Afternoon, Clandeboye Ave. was on display at Galerie West End in Montreal, Quebec before making its way to Rookleys Canadian Art in Ridgeway, Ontario.
