Schooner at Shore by George Horne Russell is a 10 x 14 inch watercolour on paper that was produced in 1909 and protected by museum glass. The painting is signed and dated in the bottom left corner. It depicts a tranquil seascape. A solitary sailboat sits along the shores of the calm body of water. The vessel is reflected in the still shoreline. Not a ripple can be seen. Tall trees with lush green leaves sit along the edge of the beach, protecting and sheltering it. Russell uses soft washes and a muted colour palette to convey the peacefulness of the scene. He was well known for his maritime work as well as his portraiture, some of which is now on display at the National Gallery of Canada as well as many other prestigious .
