Produced in 1930 as an edition of 100, April in the Cotswolds is a colour woodcut print on paper by English-Canadian artist Walter Joseph Phillips.

Sized at 7 x 8.75 inches, the piece depicts three ladies taking a stroll through the quintessential English countryside region of the Cotswolds. Thin straight line carvings made into the surface of the woodblock prints ultrathin soft gray lines, thereby depicting the path of raindrops as they pour down from the sky.

Phillips has signed the piece in the bottom right corner of the print, attesting to its authenticity. A gallery label from the Downstairs Gallery, located in Edmonton, has been pasted to the bottom right corner on the reverse side of the artwork; thereby giving April in the Cotswolds provenance prior to Rookleys.

The piece is framed with museum glass in order to protect the art and maintain its condition. Our gallery’s own label is pasted to the top left corner on the reverse side of the print; further contributing to the provenance which will come with this lovely piece upon its acquisition by a new owner.
