The Bather (La Baigneuse) by Henri Beau is an 18 x 15 inch oil on canvas that was produced circa 1910 and signed indistinctly in the bottom left corner. The painting depicts a lone woman bathing on the banks of a quiet river. Her figure is reflected in the surface of the water. The white of her skin contrasts with the darkness of the forest that surrounds her, as if lit up by an angelic light. A thick brush envelopes the composition, obscuring the background and creating the perception of seclusion as the woman cleanses her naked body.
