Bay of Islands from McIvers, NL by Alan Collier is a 12 x 16 inch oil on board that was produced on August 30th, 1989 and signed in the bottom right corner. It was acquired by the artist’s estate and has Collier Inventory #K110-79 written on the reverse.
The painting depicts a vast seascape off the coast of Newfoundland. A sandy shore gives way to rocky cliffs that seem to jut out of the ocean. Collier uses a limited palette of blue and green jewel tones combined with soft greys and earthy browns to depict this powerful seascape. His characteristic style, combining blocks of colour and simplified forms, perfectly captures the essence of the majestic maritime province.
